AHA vs BHA – Which Exfoliant is Right for You?

Introduction

AHA and BHA are both exfoliating acids, but they act differently on the skin.

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)

  • Examples: Glycolic, Lactic, Mandelic
  • Work on the skin’s surface
  • Improve radiance and texture

BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid)

  • Salicylic Acid is the main one
  • Penetrates into pores
  • Great for acne-prone, oily skin

Which to Choose?

AHAs suit dry or sun-damaged skin, BHAs suit oily/acne-prone. Some people use both (on alternate days).
